How Walking 10,000 Steps A Day Changed My Perspective On Weight Loss
I am right at the beginning of my weight loss/fitness journey. And this time I know it’s for real. Having been an overweight person for basically my whole life, I’ve tried every diet there is and signed up for multiple gym memberships but nothing ever stuck. I’ve lost ten pounds here and five pounds there only to gain a good thirty back. I’ve always had an immense dissatisfaction with the way my body looks and feels and I’m tired of it. I’m doing this for me. Not to please a partner, or out of revenge, or to fit societal norms. I just want to feel healthy for once.
Side note: It will also be nice to be able to buy jeans from the straight size section again. Plus-sized fashion is still about 10 years behind. And I’m sick of most of our options being leggings/jeggings, I just want some denim! But that’s a conversation for another day.
Winters in Maine can be absolutely brutal to someone with seasonal depression. Starting in November is really when it gets too cold and depressing for me and I don’t want to do much of anything. So for the last 6 months or so I have just been inside, getting virtually no exercise. I gained at least 20 pounds over the winter and I’m currently at the most I’ve ever weighed. For personal reasons I’d rather not share the number at the moment but maybe I will in the future.
