The Ultimate Guide to Discovering Music with Spotify

I have been a Spotify user for ten years now. In that time, I have explored and experimented with every feature I could find. I truly think that Spotify is one of the best platforms for expanding your music taste due to its endless features and updates, as well as its large catalog of music.

I feel qualified to give advice on the topic of finding new music because it is a hobby I have dedicated a lot of my life to. Finding new music is one of life’s biggest joys for me.

This is how I do it.

I would like to start by saying that I almost exclusively use Spotify to stream music so that is why I specified Spotify in the title. However, a lot of these tips can be applied to other music streaming services.

Discover Weekly

This is a Spotify-generated and personalized playlist that updates once a week on Mondays. It uses the data from all of your playlists to suggest a list of up to thirty songs that you may like based on your taste.

Song of the Day

This is another Spotify-generated playlist but this one updates daily with just one new song. It is essentially just an easier-to-digest version of Discover Weekly. I like to add this one to my library and pin it to the top as a reminder to check it daily!

New Music Friday

This is also a Spotify playlist, however, this one is not personalized to your listening experience. It is for new releases from all kinds of genres and there are different versions for different countries and regions. It is curated by the Spotify playlist editors and it updates every Friday. If you are someone who likes to keep up with new music, this is a great way to keep your finger on the pulse.

Release Radar

This is a Spotify-generated made-for-you playlist. It includes new releases from the artists that you follow on Spotify, as well as new handpicked singles from artists that you may like. It’s another feature that helps you keep up-to-date with brand new music but more personalized!
